A terrible, terrible Eclipse bug

I found a massive bug in Eclipse – it has a copy and paste function.

In Eclipse’s defence, Intellij IDEA and Netbeans also exhibit identical broken functionality.

  1. Nor can you escape this hideous defect by leaving your IDE and coding in Emacs, VIM, or your text editor of choice – they all have it!.

(Though, in the case of both VIM and Emacs, it is fortunate that ‘correct’ use of this feature requires some insane level of knowledge of keyboard ‘short-cuts’)

I am thinking about writing a fantastic Eclipse plugin called “Improve Your Code By Countless Millions of Fabulous Metric Points” which consumes utterly the CTRL-V (Command-V on a Mac) and removes the “Paste” item from “Edit” menu.

Wait, what? I’ve gone entire days without touching anything but the ctrl, c & v keys :)
